Can You Visit Iguazu Falls in One Day From Buenos Aires?

Visiting Iguazu Falls in One Day from Buenos Aires is Possible! But you need to choose the best flights, decide what to visit, and coordinate your transportation well.

Keep in mind that in this case, you will be visiting the Argentine side of Iguazu Falls. It’s not recommended to visit the Brazilian side as you will lose most of your available time in transfers and border procedures.

Which Flights to Choose?

Many people choose to do this activity from Buenos Aires thanks to the wide variety of flight schedules available to Puerto Iguazu, the city where Iguazu Falls is located.

You should choose a flight as early as possible and a return flight as late as possible. The more time you have between these flights, the more time you’ll have to explore the destination.

In Iguazu Falls, the only airport in Puerto Iguazu has the code IGR. For Buenos Aires, you can choose a flight from Ezeiza or Aeroparque Jorge Newbery. The difference between the two airports is that you need to wake up earlier to go to Ezeiza as it is further from Buenos Aires City.

For example, from Buenos Aires, it’s ideal to choose a flight departing between 5 to 8 in the morning to Puerto Iguazu. For the return flight, any flight from 7 in the evening is more than enough.

If you can’t find flights at these times, you can choose others that leave later to Puerto Iguazu or depart earlier to Buenos Aires. Our recommendation is to have at least 4 to 5 hours available to visit the park. Keep in mind that getting to Puerto Iguazu takes 2 hours.

Google Flights makes it easy to see all available flights for a date.

What to Visit?

During your one-day visit to Iguazu Falls from Buenos Aires, you’ll explore the Argentine park.

Here are the activities you can do:

  1. Visit the Devil’s Throat: The most famous and attractive walkway in the park, you must do this walk at the very least.
  2. Visit the Lower or Upper Circuit: These other walkways let you see the Argentine park from different angles, both very attractive and easy to walk.
  3. Take the Gran Aventura Boat Ride: If you find ideal flights that allow you to visit the park from opening time (8 in the morning) until closing time (6 in the evening), it’s possible to take the boat ride. Remember to bring a change of clothes as you will get wet.
  4. Have Lunch at Melia Iguazu: If you have time, you can take the opportunity to have lunch at Melia Iguazu, a luxury hotel in the middle of the Argentine park where you can enjoy great cuisine and take a little rest. There are also other restaurants around.

How to Coordinate Transportation?

What you need to keep in mind is that as soon as you arrive at the airport, you should take a taxi to the Argentine park.

The park is not far from the airport, so getting there won’t be difficult. At the end of your tour, you should take another taxi from the park to the airport.

How to Organize This Trip?

Our recommendation, based on our experience, is to hire a travel agency service. This is because:

  1. They will take care of finding the best flight according to your needs and available times. And in case of flight changes, they will coordinate everything considering that. They can even recover the money paid if the flight is canceled or you have an unforeseen event.
  2. They will coordinate all necessary transportation, both in Buenos Aires and Puerto Iguazu. This will allow you to save waiting time looking for transportation and make better use of your available time.
  3. They will provide a guide just for you, which will not only allow you to learn more about the Argentine park and the destination but also organize your visit to make the most of your available time.
