Description
In this short activity, you’ll discover key facts about yerba mate, one of the most important beverages in Argentine culture. You’ll learn about its historical and cultural value, including fascinating facts — like its sacred meaning for the Guaraní people. During a hands-on workshop, you’ll also learn how to prepare the mate cup, place the yerba properly, use the straw (bombilla), and master the correct pouring technique.
The activity starts at a time of your choice, offered daily between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM in downtown Puerto Iguazú. It lasts around 30 minutes, takes place entirely on foot, and ends at the same point where it begins. While normally designed for a minimum of two people, solo travelers are also welcome with prior notice.
You’ll be guided by a host who speaks both Spanish and English and has in-depth knowledge of the mate world—making this a great experience for first-time tasters as well as seasoned mate drinkers. The service includes a demonstration and tasting, with the option to try three different types of mate, including one organic variety.
You’ll also get to try both traditional mate and tereré — a cold version of mate infused with lemon — perfect for warm days.
At the end of the activity, you’ll receive a complimentary traditional metal bombilla (straw).
Optionally, you can visit a nearby shop specializing in yerba mate and related accessories.
