Itinerary

The Journey Through Jorge Bergoglio’s Life in Buenos Aires starts at 10:00 a.m. in the famous Barrio de Flores, the neighborhood where Pope Francis was born and where he spent his early years with his parents and four siblings.

We’ll explore the schools and churches that shaped his education and where he received the sacraments that inspired his religious calling. You’ll visit the places he frequented as a young man and discover the roots of his passion for soccer at the Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro.

We’ll stop at the Church of San Francisco of Assisi, where Bergoglio was introduced to the Franciscan Order—which later inspired his papal name. We’ll also visit the San José de Flores Basilica, the sacred site where, at just 17 years old, he decided to dedicate his life to God.

Our final stop will be at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Buenos Aires, where thousands of Argentinians gathered to await the results of the conclave in which Bergoglio was elected successor to Pope Benedict XVI.

The tour finishes at around 1:00 p.m. in Plaza de Mayo.
