A week ago, the city of Ushuaia saw the opening of a new ice skating rink. The venue, named after Carlos “Tachuela” Oyarzún, is located in a prime spot: at 12 de Octubre N°89, triangulated between the Municipal Sports Complex, the Walk of the Ancient Inhabitants, and facing the Enclosed Bay.

Here, you can engage in various activities such as figure skating, hockey, or just recreational skating. To access, it’s necessary to purchase a pass valid for the entire day.
Also, at the venue, you can rent ice skates for an additional fee to the day pass.
Moreover, it will offer discounts to school groups, who will only be charged for skate rentals.

Following the inaugural celebration on May 25, 2024, which included free hot chocolate and fried cakes, the ice rink saw good attendance, with visitors of all ages. This was highlighted by Pedro Baeza, an instructor at the Andean Club of Ushuaia (CAU) and a worker at the rink:
“The ages are very varied. There are many children who come with their families, there are kids from 4 years old to 17 spending a lot of time on the rink, they spend their day there. Then a lot of families, a lot of older people come, we have discounts for retirees so they come a lot.”
